James joined Birketts in 1989. He is a partner and heads up our corporate and commercial division.
James looks after the commercial interests of a wide range of businesses based all over East Anglia and beyond. This includes the drafting and negotiation of all types of commercial contracts as well as transactional work. He has been responsible for developing Birketts' trade mark practice and advises clients on all aspects of brand exploitation and protection.
Other Information
James is an Associate Member of the Institute of Trade Marks Agents and of the European Communities Trade Marks Association. In Legal 500 [2010] he is praised for his "sound commercial advice" and in a previous edition for his "excellent, pragmatic legal support". In Chambers [UK 2009] he is singled out by clients for being "unflustered and quietly self-confident and effective" and in the 2010 edition is recognised for his wide-ranging transactional expertise. Prior to training as a solicitor, James obtained a degree in engineering.
