Birketts retains talent by offering permanent positions to its newly qualified trainees


Birketts is delighted to offer full time positions to five trainee solicitors who have just completed a two year training contract with the firm.

The newly appointed solicitors include Sarah Bartholomew (Employment), Melanie Bonté (Shipping), Victoria Butcher (Commercial Property), Dan Jones (Immigration) and Richard Pooley (Corporate).

Sarah Bartholomew joined Birketts as a trainee solicitor in 2009 and has qualified into the employment team in Ipswich.  She deals with a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters for clients, including assisting in a recent and long running dispute which reached the Court of Appeal.

Melanie Bonté qualified into Birketts’ shipping, logistics and international services team based in Ipswich.  She deals with a wide range of shipping law matters with experience in LMAA arbitrations, charterparty disputes and speed and consumption claims.

Victoria Butcher qualified into Birketts’ Commercial Property department in Ipswich.  She deals with the acquisition and disposal of freehold and leasehold property along with landlord and tenant issues for individual and corporate clients.  Victoria also provides property support to Birketts’ corporate and banking teams.

Dan Jones, who joined the Immigration team in Ipswich, assists head of department, Sally Azarmi in a variety of matters including registering companies for sponsor licences and applications for individuals to enter the UK for employment.

Richard Pooley, who initially joined Wollastons in 2009 as a trainee, qualified into Birketts’ corporate and commercial department in Chelmsford.  He has acted on a wide variety of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and general corporate governance issues, as well as the full range of commercial matters, such as agency, distribution, franchising and the licensing and exploitation of intellectual property rights.
